Survey on the Trend of Drug Abuse, Demand and Development Planning of Drug Rehabilitation Services in Macao

The Social Work Bureau commissioned Asian Association for Substance Abuse Research (AASAR) to conduct a household survey entitled "Survey on the Trend of Drug Abuse, Demand and Development Planning of Drug Rehabilitation Services in Macao" from 20 October 2019 to 29 February 2020. Respondents are expected to actively cooperate.

In order to better understand the demographic situation, causes and the overall trend of drug abuse in Macao, to adjust preventive measures and to strengthen the allocation of resources for related services, the Social Work Bureau entrusted the research unit to conduct interviews. After the random sampling, 2500 households were chosen and sent a letter to the notice.  Investigators with the work permit and the uniform of Asian Association for Substance Abuse Research (AASAR) will visit the household and conduct a questionnaire survey with the consent of the owner. The Social Work Bureau calls for the active cooperation of the respondents. The information provided will be treated in a confidential manner and used only as a reference for the future planning and service development of drug abuse control measures in Macao.

In addition to household surveys, the research also includes focus group discussions with drug abuse control officers, front-line staff, clients and their families, as well as discussions with experts and academics. The aim is to listen to the views of different stakeholders on the status of drug abuse control services and the development of work plans in Macao. For enquiries or to verify the identity of the investigator, citizens may contact the enquiry hotline of the research unit at 62305544 or the Department of Drug Rehabilitation of the Social Work Bureau at 28358844 during the office hours.
