Experts and Scholars Meeting in Xishuangbanna, Discussing about Drug Control and Treatment



2014 Asian Conference on Substance Abuse Treatment and Rehabilitation was held on November 3-5 in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan Provence, China. More than sixty participants from different regions in Asia attended this conference and exchanged academic ideas as well as experiences on drug control and treatment, which included experts and scholars on substance abuse research, leaders from government and civil society organizations and etc.

This conference was hosted by Asian Association for Substance Abuse Research (AASAR), and co-hosted by Department of Sociology of University of Macau and Yunnan Police Officer Academy. With the theme of “Building Knowledge, Conquering Challenge”, the conference included six different topics, such as Situation, Influence and Challenge of Drugs, New Situation and Measures of Drug Control, Measures and Practices of Drug Prevention and Control, Compulsory Isolation Drug Treatment and Community Drug Treatment, Research and Findings, and Round-Table Seminar. It set up a bridge for communications between the academia and the executive departments of drug control and treatment.

After the conference, on November 6-8, some participants also visited the world’s largest drug base—Golden Triangle, to investigate the drug control works and the results of the alternative planting project of poppy.
