Exploring the Complexity of the Relationship Between Delinquent Peer Association and Adolescent Drug Use from Multiple Perspectives

Professor Spencer De Li, Professor Shu-Lung Yang, ang PhD student Kehui Wu recently published a paper titled "Understanding the Mechanisms Mediating the Relationship Between Delinquent Peer Association and Adolescent Drug Use in the Greater China Region" in the journal Crime & Delinquency. This study, based on survey data from 8,027 secondary school students across three major cities in the Greater China Region, seeks to explore the intricate relationship between delinquent peer association and adolescent drug use by introducing several key criminological perspectives. Significant mediators identified in the study include pro-drug use attitudes, crime victimization, and drug availability, with pro-drug use attitudes exerting the strongest influence. The findings emphasize the complexity of this relationship and highlight the need for a multifaceted theoretical approach to better understand adolescent drug use.
